The arrival of a newborn monkey is normally an important moment in the life of a mother and her social group. A tiny baby enters the world completely dependent on its mother for warmth, protection, nourishment, and close contact.
In this footage involving Rozy and her newborn, however, the interaction appears very different from the nurturing scenes people often expect to see. The baby is extremely vulnerable, and the circumstances shown are difficult to watch.
It is important to be careful when interpreting animal behavior. From a video alone, we cannot know exactly what Rozy understood, intended, or was experiencing at the time. Describing her as intentionally cruel or saying that she deliberately rejected her newborn would go beyond what can be established from the footage.
What the scene does show is a newborn facing a serious and difficult situation shortly after birth. For viewers, the moment can be a reminder that wildlife does not always follow the gentle stories we hope to see. Birth, survival, maternal behavior, and loss can all be part of the natural world.
As the footage continues, the newborn’s situation becomes increasingly concerning. The interaction shown between Rozy and the baby does not appear to provide the kind of sustained maternal care that a newborn normally depends upon.
If the footage shows the baby falling from a height, that event should be described simply as what is visible rather than assuming why it happened. We cannot determine from the video alone whether the mother intentionally caused the fall, whether she lost her grip, or whether another circumstance was involved.
The most difficult part of the scene is the vulnerability of the newborn. At such an early stage, a baby monkey has very limited ability to protect itself or respond to danger.
Wildlife can sometimes present painful and unexpected realities. While people naturally want to understand an animal’s behavior through human emotions, wild animals operate according to instincts, social dynamics, physical conditions, and circumstances that may not be fully visible to us.
This moment is therefore best viewed with compassion for the vulnerable newborn and with caution when interpreting the mother’s behavior.
